Warning Against Cash Loans By State Treasurer
It is a tax season and in these difficult economic times, people more than ever are headed towards to acquiring their tax refunds.
It has been reported that if you file electronically you normally acquire your refund in a couple of weeks but refund cash loans are the one who allow you to grab money almost instantly.
It has been revealed that State treasurer warns the people against cash loans to acquire their tax refunds. These short-term loans offer instant financial aid with higher interest rate which can’t be affordable by many in such a tough economic times. So, people should avoid taking loans and take advantage of plenty free tax assistance programs.
However, not everyone, think it’s an appropriate idea.
On the other hand, Illinois state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is influencing tax payers not to use the cash loans as it will cost you.
Quick cash loans have been around for years, but difficult economic times have became them even more popular this year.
According to Giannoulias, the cash loans are marketed to the working poor.
The ads are big and bright using Magic Johnson for the pitch, “It is money like Magic.” One Jackson Hewitt ad talks about instant refunds in the form of cash loans. They are short-term high interest loans based on a tax filer’s expected refund.
Giannoulias added “It’s a rip off as you are paying to borrow your own money. Unluckily, the people probably to fall prey to them are those who least likely can afford them.”
A few years ago, Jean Mayze wanted instant cash to help buy her kids some belated Christmas presents so she took out a RAL. While she walked out with cash in one day, Mayze says she had no idea about all the fees and interests involved until it was too late.
According to Mayze tax preparers at H & R Block and Jackson Hewitt did not completely give details to her about all the interest and fees. That does not occur as a surprise to Mario Hogen who worked for Jackson Hewitt for 10 years before quitting previous year.
However, Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is influencing low income tax payers to avoid the loans and seek advantage of various free tax helpful programs which is what Jena Mayze is doing this year.
